Yorkshire Humberside
About the Yorkshire Humberside Japanese SchoolThe Yorkshire & Humberside Japanese School was founded in 1991 with the support of Leeds Metropolitan University, Leeds City Council, Yorkshire Forward, Japanese Government and Japan Overseas Educational Services. The school is based at Leeds Trinity University Campus and is attended by over 50 children from across the region of Yorkshire and Humberside. The school runs every Saturday of the academic year, with small-group teaching for each year group led by Japanese-speaking teachers. The school works through the curriculum of standard Japanese textbooks, seeking to develop, maintain and improve literacy and comprehension of the Japanese language. A range of supporting materials are incorporated into the teaching and home study is strongly encouraged. A range of extra-curricula activities and events run throughout the year, supported by parents and teachers of the school. Termly reports and teacher-parent meetings are offered to help foster close communication between the School and families.
